The object is a spindle-shaped tag or bulla that was once attached to a double rope whose impression is still visible; it bears no seal impression (see photo Visicato/Westenholz 2010: plate LXXII). CUSAS 11 316 was labelled „Early Sargonic“ by its editors (Visicato/Westenholz 2010: 3). However, with bullae, dating by tablet format is not possible. The long lines, but more importantly the sign-forms and the relatively broad impressions of the stylus favour an attribution to the Middle Sargonic or even the Classic Sargonic group. The present edition differs significantly from the one given by its first editors.

The tag notes that as far as sesame seeds had been given away, the equivalent of oil has to be put on the account („tablet“, im).

line 2: a-ba-šum2-ma is a verbal form, marked by the prefix of anteriority u– (> a– before ba-).

line 3: šu gi4 „to return“ indicates the fulfilment of debts or obligations after goods had been taken over.

line 4: im tag-a seems to refer to administrative accounting, perhaps directly to the act of adding(?) this bulla to the previous accounts.
